SYV.COM offers access to the Internet for individuals and businesses within the Santa Ynez Valley. In addition, SYV.COM provides a presence on the World Wide Web for local businesses, providing marketing or public service information for people in the Valley and world-wide.

SYV.COM Agreement for Terms and Conditions of Usage

SYV.COM Products and Services:

SYV.COM is locally-based in Buellton, California, USA, providing local customer support and fast response for local access to web service. Our company is utilizing Internet technology as a medium for communication within the Valley as well as a link to the rest of the world.

1.0 - INTERNET ACCESS OFFERINGS - Residential

SYV.COM has several options for residential accounts.  We are proud to introduce our new Residential Unlimited Surf.  It is designed to provide unlimited access for our residential customers with no activation fee.  We also have DSL available to those areas that are eligible.  We have lowered the price for ISDN for residential accounts to $49.95/month.  All accounts are billed quarterly.

SYV.COM is responsible only for dial-up connection services to the Internet, including web access and E-mail. We are not responsible for software installation or configuration problems on remote PC's or Macintosh user systems. These problems are addressed under separate consultation services, provided by either SYV.COM or a third-party vendor.

1.1 - RU Surf ( $19.95/Month)

The long awaited unlimited internet access is here.  RU Surf is unlimited dial-up access from one residence.   The quarterly billing rate is $59.85.

1.2 - DSL ($24.95/Month)

Available in limited areas.  The quarterly billing rate is $52.20.  There is a separate Verizon charge of approximately $40/month.  DSL is a data service provided by the telephone company that provides connection to an Internet Service Provider via the standard voice telephone lines. It has a number of advantages – primarily speed and relatively low cost. The typical speed of a DSL connection is 768 Kilobits/second when receiving data and 128 Kilobits/second when sending. DSL is referred to as an “always on” mode of Internet connection in that no dial-up process is required. The DSL connection rides on top of the traditional phone service, allowing simultaneous voice calls while operating on the Internet. It’s just like having another phone line. 

1.3 - ISDN Access ($49.95/Month)

ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) is a high-speed communications facility that carries both voice and high speed data over the same telephone line. ISDN comes with 35 base hours per month, over-usage billed at $.60/hour thereafter.  ISDN lines can transfer data at 128,000 bits/second, about 4-6 times faster than modems. One IP Address. Quarterly billing rate is $149.85.  

1.4 - E-Mail Service

One mailbox is included with the RU Surf, DSL or ISDN account. Additional mailboxes may be configured at a rate of $5 per month per mailbox.

1.5 - Internet Software Installation and Consulting

On-site installation available for $35 - $50 per hour.


2.0 - SIGN-UP AND BILLING PROCEDURES

Service is initiated by completing the SYV.COM Sign-up Sheet and paying with check or cash the first quarterly account rate. Payment is required within one week of the effective date, and excludes any usage charges incurred. The first month's fees are non refundable.

SYV.COM does not impose an explicit "setup charge" on initiation of an access account; however, telephone or on-site assistance in configuring customer computers may be provided as an extra fee as requested. SYV.COM recommends the use of a consultant for initial on-site setup of Internet software.

When you sign up for the system, you choose a requested mailbox name and associated password for the account. Account names are limited to eight characters in length and must be unique. These names and are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. For security reasons, your password must be at least 6 characters in length (NOT your name, mailbox name, phone number or address!), and include at least one uppercase letter or numeric digit. (You can easily make up a "good" password that you can remember by combining two words; for example, Elvis Presley becomes "ElSley".)

Your start-up password is defined to allow you to initially connect to the system. Please write your password down and keep it somewhere safe! If you forget your password, we can assign a new password, but we'll have to charge you a small fee for this service.

2.1 - Billing Procedures

Our billing cycle begins on the first of every month and ends on the last day of every month. Invoices are issued at the first of each month, and we ask that you submit payment in full within one week.

2.3 - Pro-rated Payments

Unless service begins on the first day of a month, your first payment will include:

  • the pro-rated amount for the number of days remaining in the first month of service.
  • and the normal quarterly charge for your selected service plan.

2.3 - Non-Payment

Accounts not paid by the 10th of the month may be placed "on-hold", allowing receipt of E-mail but disabling dial-in access. Accounts subject to unpaid balances longer than 30 days are subject to deletion. Reactivation requires payment of the late balance, and incurs a $15.00 reactivation fee. Re-instating a deleted account involves repayment of the past-due invoice in addition to the initial (quarterly) account fee. No provision is made for restoring E-mail associated with a deleted account.

2.4 - Changing/Updating Account Information

Changes between billing plans may be made at any time, but take effect only at the end of the current quarterly billing cycle. All account changes and additions/deletions of additional mailboxes must be made by the administrative person for the account by contacting our billing department via US Mail or E-Mail.

Once changed, SYV.COM personnel do not have a way to retrieve your password. If you lose it, we can only reset it to a new value at your request, provided you prove identity.

2.5 - Canceling your Account

Cancellations of accounts MUST BE MADE IN WRITING and submitted either via E-mail to admin@syv.com, by Fax, or via U.S. Mail at least 5 days prior to the first of the month of cancellation. We require the following information at the time of cancellation:

  • Your full name
  • Your Mailing Address
  • Your telephone number
  • Effective date, if not at end of current month
Of course, we always want to provide the best service possible, and would appreciate your notifying us of the reason for cancellation.

Note: The first month's fees, any setup charges, and any on-site consulting fees are NON-refundable.)

Upon requesting cancellation of an account, it is your responsibility to notify other parties of impending change, and you are responsible for retrieving all stored E-mail before the specified cancellation date.
